Jet Lag & the Farmers Market
Today is going to be a "double post day" because when you wake up at 4AM, you suddenly have a lot more you can accomplish in one day. I did force myself back to bed though and woke up again at a more reasonable 6AM. After taking Harvey for his long walk for the day since it was a "cool" 80 degrees outside and it's going to be 100+ today, I then sat myself down with a cup of tea and began catching up on my favorite blogs.
A friend's posting on our local farmers market in particular caught my attention. After snacking on freshly picked blackberries, raspberries, and strawberries daily in Scotland (more to come on where we stayed soon!), I decided to keep the habit going and headed to the farmers market.
One of my favorite aspects of the market, other than supporting local farmers, is the smell. Everything just smells so fresh and yummy. I want my house to have that smell. After wandering around for about 15 minutes taking in the sights, smells and a few samplings, I settled on a basket each of sweet blueberries, tart blackberries and juicy peaches. I'm thinking of adding them to a lemon sorbet for dessert tonight... if I can wait that long.
Okay, time to get to work!

Springing Forward
I LOVE that it doesn't get dark until 7:30ish now, but ask anyone I know and they'll tell you, I am not a morning person. So I can't seem to shake that hour of sleep I lost. Especially since it's still dark when we're rising in the morning. I've always been someone who needs a lot of sleep, so mornings have never been my finest hour of the day. Phillip on the other hand goes to bed later than me, gets up earlier than me and always seems to still have energy. I'm baffled by this. If I could have a super power, I think I might ask for the ability to never sleep. Just think of all the things I could accomplish and cross off my to do list! Not to mention the gazillions of pictures I would have time to take.
But even with my "sleep deprivation," I definitely would not trade it for fuller days of sunshine. Especially since it means warmer weather, fresh cut grass, green trees, cocktails on the porch at sunset, and the sweet smell of flowers are on the way. Raleigh is starting to show signs already...
Note to self, get allergy medicine...

Happy Valentine's Day!
I'm exhausted from the four and a half hour car ride back to Raleigh from a visit with my family in Virginia, but wanted to post a quick picture that I took of my mom's orchid (one of my all time favorite flowers) in front of a window at their home.
A beautiful flower for a beautiful valentine's day with the ones I love. Happy Valentine's Day!
