Claire's First Birthday

The first birthday is a big ONE - literally and figuratively. It's a first step towards toddlerdom, signaling a transition away from babyhood. Baby steps and baby proofing aren't far off, if not already in full effect, and personalities are coming into view. And if you're Miss Claire, it also means that you get an awesome cake (with her likeness!) to dive into.

When I arrived at Claire's home, the house was bustling with people, the arranging of last minute decorations, getting food out of the oven, popping open a few bottles of beer, and greeting each arrival with a warm hug. It felt like a home filled with love and that day, this love was centered around a fabulous little girl.

Get ready for a lot of adorableness (this girl knows how to work a camera and a room I might add), sweetness, and of course, stickiness.

Happy Birthday Claire!

Go Fish

I love all things sea related. I think the obsession first began with Disney's The Little Mermaid. It then grew on a family vacation to Florida when I was 10. Our first stop was Sea World, which I pretty much thought was the greatest place ever. I remember begging to sit in the "Wet Zone" bleachers of the Killer Whale show - getting soaked - and then having water sloshing in my tennis shoes for the next 2 days - but I got soaked by a Killer Whale!!! So I was okay with it. When my parents asked what my favorite part of the trip was, I confessed I loved Sea World more Disney (sorry Mickey).

So, it's no surprise that I love a good aquarium and Atlanta has the best. Since my 'Hoos made it to the Chick-Fil-A Bowl this year, we headed down to Atlanta to ring in the New Year and cheer for UVA over those pesky War Eagles.

Our first stop? The Georgia Aquarium of course.

I would not want to run into this guy outside of the aquarium...

This guy, on the other hand, looks much friendlier and like he's having a fun time. I imagine he's saying "Weeeee!"

Don't look now, but there's a shark behind you.

 Whale shark!

 I imagine that he's recalling a fish he caught that was   "T   H   I    S      B   I    G."
